While sport was declared a major national cause for 2024 by the government and its health benefits are proven, physical activity is still often associated with youth and performance. In France, only half of people over 60 say they exercise. This figure drops to 25% for those over 75. In Brittany, where one inhabitant in three is a senior, a few initiatives exist. Gael Lars and the recreation department of the town of St-Renan (Finistère) decided to reverse the trend: sport will be gray-haired or it will not be! The inter-nursing-home Olympics thus took place in early March in a gymnasium in the town, which holds the “Terre de jeu 2024” label. On the program: a pétanque tournament, a slalom and skill race, adapted volleyball and, of course, team dancing! More than a hundred residents thus competed for an afternoon, watched by their families and caregivers
