In one of the many slums of Dehradun, in the state of Uttarakhand in northern India, residents live in extremely difficult conditions. Access to water is one of the major problems.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), access to water is an indicator representing the share of the population with reasonable access to an adequate quantity of drinking water. More than 2 billion people worldwide still lack access to sanitation facilities.

In India, the pollution of groundwater and rivers, difficulties in water supply even in well-off neighborhoods, the sale of water in the slums and the transmission of diseases through polluted water cause extensive harm to health.
