From February 4 to 8, 2024, a few dozen kilometers from Riyadh, the World Defense Show 2024 took place.

Organized by the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI), this second edition underlines the ambition of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (which recently joined the exclusive BRICS club) to establish itself as a global hub for the defense sector.

The event, which brings together some 773 exhibitors from more than 75 countries (including Russia and Ukraine), is marked this year by a strong presence of French companies. Giants such as Airbus, Safran, Thales, Naval Group, Arquus and Nexter (now KNDS), as well as start-ups and other SMEs, made the trip to showcase their expertise.

This trade show is establishing itself not only as a crossroads of technological innovation in air, land, maritime, space defense and security, but also as a key platform for developing international partnerships. “It offers an ideal setting for technology transfer and skills development, aligned with the Kingdom’s strategic vision,” according to the organizers.

Several offset agreements (memorandum of understanding, or MoU) have already been signed, notably with South Korea and with the American company Lockheed Martin, which has committed to locating part of its missile production in Saudi Arabia.
