In this book, which we were able to publish thanks to your support through a crowdfunding campaign (more than 300% funded), you will travel to the other side of the world, step around the corner, join a protest march, dive into the ocean to swim with whales, discover sacred rites, fly in the African sky, wander through vegetable fields and salt fields, follow a patrol of Kurdish soldiers hunting jihadists, live the daily life of an elderly person in lockdown, learn to make honey with migrants, raise sheep on a Breton island… and much more.
All these incredible stories you are about to read have one thing in common. They are all told by photojournalists who are passionate and driven by the same mission: to bear witness, whatever the cost, to the complex world in which we all live.
The work of photojournalists matters.
Historians of the present moment, they are there to inform, inspire, denounce, amaze, and above all provide keys to understanding a society in constant change.
This book is a window on the world, a humble contribution to our History, a sometimes offbeat look at the news that will not necessarily find the place it deserves in the traditional press.
While people talk about a “press crisis” or a “photojournalism crisis”, we, the photographers of Collectif DR, keep producing, telling stories and thinking about viable business models and innovative ways to distribute our images.
That is the strength of the Collective: to bring together, reassure, train, gather points of view, look for solutions and innovate to move forward.
This book is the first of a long series, a building block in the edifice of photojournalism.
